There are two types of motivation that could be at play here. Sometimes, we are intrinsically motivated, or in other words, motivated by our own feelings and values. Other times, we are extrinsically motivated, or motivated by factors outside of ourselves. The more you learn about motivation, the better able you will be to use that knowledge to motivate yourself.
